The toenails match the heels. Both are red, and under the kitchen table is the only place you can see them both at once.
Natalie sits at a round wooden table in a yellow top and denim shorts, legs crossed, red mules hanging from her toes. The camera sits at floor level, looking up through the table legs, and what it sees is a private show – red toenails framed by red suede, wrinkled soles lifting and settling with every shift of her weight. At EU 35 (US 4) and 5’7″, her feet barely fill the mules, and the heels slip and catch with every small movement.
The under-table perspective changes everything. You are below her, looking up past the chair legs and the table base at her feet from an angle that only exists when someone is not looking back. Natalie’s red toenails press against the insole of each mule, the polish bright enough to see even in the shadowed space beneath the table. When she uncrosses her legs, both feet plant on the wooden floor and you see the matching red from two angles at once.
The mules are open-toe stilettos in red suede with a nude insole. The contrast between the red upper and the bare skin of her foot creates a frame around each set of toes – red border, warm skin in the middle, red polish on top. When Natalie’s heel lifts out of the shoe, the wrinkled sole catches the ambient light. Deep crease lines under the ball of her foot, the high arch visible in profile, and then the heel settles back into the mule.
Her red toenails are painted with care. Each nail carries the same shade of deep red – not orange-red, not pink-red, but a true crimson that matches the suede of the shoes almost exactly. On feet this small, the effect is concentrated. Five red-tipped toes in a tight row, each one catching light from a slightly different angle.
The kitchen behind her has brick walls, a vase of pink flowers on the counter, and green-painted cabinets. She sits at the table like she is waiting for coffee, legs shifting from crossed to uncrossed and back, the red mules appearing and disappearing from the under-table frame.
There are barefoot moments when she slides one foot completely out of its mule. The naked sole sits on the hardwood for a moment – all wrinkles and warm skin – before slipping back into the red shoe. These transitions last a few seconds each, but they are the shots that stay.
Seven and a half minutes under the table. Red on red, wrinkled soles, and a view you were not supposed to have.
